It's Raining Birds!

Suddenly since the turn of the year, there have been numerous stories in the media about thousands of birds dropping out of the skies, and thousands of fish washing up dead on shores all over the country. It caught the fancy of the media, both at home, and abroad.

As of this time, no definite cause has been determined, but that does not mean that people have not started to speculate on the origin of these localized extinctions. And speculations run rampant from the simple to the convoluted. Since these deaths happened around the New Year, some blame fireworks, while others theorize that the birds were "....probably asleep in a single tree when a washing machine-type thunderstorm sucked them up into the air, disoriented them, and even fatally soaked and chilled them."

Then of course there is always my favorite read, the Governmental Conspiracy. Now here is something that will keep me awake. Reading this article I learned about how the government is secretly testing something called "..Electromagnetic scalar weapons that can artificially manipulate the environment could be responsible for the mass die offs." Oh, oh.. This sounds really serious. Now I start searching for more data and find additional "facts" about these "scalar weapons".  So now, how am I ever going to get ANY sleep?

Luckily, I ran across a saner voice on this subject, so I can ease up on the Tums and the obligatory chocolate.

So what is it about this occurrence that strikes a chord of mystery in the hearts of people? Birds and fish get killed various ways throughout the year, and it is not noteworthy. So why are we obsessing about these instances of relatively mass deaths? Could it be that perhaps in the recesses of our mind we see something Biblical about this? And if you are familiar with the writings in the Book of Exodus, you might even think that these developments have a strong resemblance to some of the plagues visited upon the Pharaoh and the ancient Egyptians, which eventually resulted in the emancipation of the Hebrew slaves.  Plagues?  Interesting!

Would it then surprise you to find out that portions of the Bible (commonly called the Old Testament) that the Jewish people read weekly in the Synagogue Service as part of an annual cycle, are currently up to the story of Egyptian Plagues? In other words, last week's reading along with this weeks, encapsulate the narration of the Ten Plagues.

Now don't call me a fanatic, lunatic or deranged. (You might be correct, but that is neither here nor there.) I am pointing this out because since we are looking at various possible explanations, it's something to think about. Or do you think that "scalar weapons" are more plausible?
